Many of you that know me well know that I am a big fan of music lyrics. I search for them often so I can sing along with my favorite songs and I also use them for inspiration when I need a creative boost.

So you can imagine my excitement about this cool software I found called TunesTEXT. It’s an OSX Dashboard Widget that works with Itunes to automatically search for song lyrics to the song you are currently listening to. Not only that, it downloads those lyrics and copies them into the song ID3 info. It also shows you any album artwork attached to the file. You can also use this widget to advance the tracks or pause the music.

So anytime I’m working on something and I want to glance at the lyrics of the song that is playing, I just hit the widget key (F12) and suddenly I can sing until my voice is raspy. Below is a screen shot of the widget in action.

I have two complaints about it though. Sometimes it has trouble finding the lyrics to certain artists or albums. I guess it needs to search through more databases or something. The other problem is that usually when it is downloading the lyrics, it causes the music to skip for half a second or so. Not a deal killer, but pretty annoying. Other than that, it’s pretty great. I’d actually like to see this feature built right into Itunes.

Download it by going here: http://www.cyanworks.net/dboardTunesTEXT.html. The website is kinda sketch, but the app works great!

So, I haven’t been feeling very productive lately even though I am full of ideas for things I want to do and I have plenty of work to get done. In an attempt to increase moral and productivity, I spent the day rearranging my bedroom. My bedroom is oddly shaped and has three doors plus I have tons of shit, so this is a lot harder than it sounds. But I did it with only minor injuries (smashed thumb and slightly broken desk) and am pretty happy with the results. I guess you can check back with me in a few months and see how I like it then.

my current desktop click the pic for larger version

Also I spent a few hours sorting and reorganizing all the files on my laptop. I’m generally pretty organized but it was getting a little chaotic. I now have a beautiful clutter free desktop. You notice the dock thingie at the top of the screen? That’s a nifty little program called Ojectdock that essentially replaces your shortcuts and icons on the desktop and gives you a very customizable dock to put everything in. It’s pretty rad.

I created this text using the google Docs feature. This is a text document. Not 100% sure why I would want to use google for my office applications, however some people will find it useful I’m sure.

Woah… I just noticed a link to publish this text to a blog. This might be kinda cool for that, depending on how it handles HTML. I just inserted that picture up top and I’m not sure how well it will upload or what will exactly happen when i publish the image. Will it be part of the document or will it be hosted by google somehow?

I’m always looking for a different HTML editor to write my blog posts in… Perhaps this is my new one.

One pretty awesome aspect to it is the idea of adding collaborators to a document. That way I could share this document with someone and they could edit and save it. It sure would beat emailing various versions back and forth. And speaking of revisions, it looks like you can multiple revisions and choose which one you want to work on. So far so good!

This post wouldn’t be complete without a quote!

“I think — tide turning — see, as I remember — I was raised in the desert, but tides kind of — it’s easy to see a tide turn — did I say those words?” –George W. Bush, asked if the tide was turning in Iraq, Washington, D.C., June 14, 2006

I have been slowly learning how to use CSS lately to keep up with my wordpress sites. I still have tons to learn but I feel that I have made a lot of progess over the past two weeks. One item I recently discovered has helped out a little. This is a CSS cheat sheet. That site explains how to use it and has it in PDF and PNG format. You can also find the link to a Mac Dashboard Widget which would seem helpful if I used a mac for website development.

http://www.ilovejackdaniels.com/cheat-sheets/css-cheat-sheet/

There are a few more things I would like to change on this site before I release it to the world. I know of a few bugs and such that I need to fix and when those get done, be prepared for a huge end of the world style party.
