I met Joe McNally last summer at the Santa Fe Workshops and he was nice enough to let me hang out with his class on location at Abiquiu Lake in Northern New Mexico. That’s where I shot this HDR shot of the Mazda CX-7 I briefly owned.

In his portfolio slideshow he actually used a song from the Dropkick Murphy’s (an Irish punk rock band) and it really fits, which is awesome!

Anyway, he recently released what everyone says is an amazing book of photography stories and lessons called “The Moment it Clicks“. It’s on my amazon wish list if anyone feels like being super nice to me.

He also has a really great blog with great stories and photos. His recent post called “The long and winding road“, goes back in time a bit but then leads up to a special moment he has with his wife, Annie. While in Santa Fe I also met Annie who is equally awesome and they are both so nice and great to be around and as is obvious from the pictures in that post, they have a special relationship.

I highly recommend taking his classes or buying his book or at the very least, reading his blog.

So the Santa Fe Workshops just released the Summer/Fall 2008 Catalog and they used 7 of my images throughout, including 2 half pages. Next to every image is the copyright owner’s name, so everyone who looks at the catalog knows who shot the images. I’m pretty excited to have my work exhibited next to work by some of the best photographers in the world. It’s my first National Publication and it’s really validating.

Here’s what the amazing Scott Kelby had to say about it in his blog

I just got the 2008 spring/fall catalog of classes from the Santa Fe Workshops, and since it’s just a listing of their upcoming classes, I guess I wasn’t expecting to see so much incredible photography, but…it’s filled with incredible photography! It’s a beautifully designed catalog that makes such great use of photography that I had to sit there with it for a few minutes, and just let the images soak in.

You can view a PDF of the catalog by clicking the link below:

The End of Money Blog. This blog scares the crap out of me. It’s an economics blog that explains some deep thoughts on the United States financial situation. From what I’ve read, we are in big trouble. Start with these two posts: part 1 of 2, part 2 of 2. Here is an interesting excerpt to whet your appetite:

What would it mean if our nation went bankrupt? A good analogy would be New Orleans. The city is bankrupt; it’s a mess, and can only rebuild with federal (outside) assistance. New Orleans completely lacks the ability to rebuild on its own because it doesn’t have the funds and its economy is pretty much destroyed. But if the US goes bankrupt, who will help us rebuild? If the answer is ‘nobody’, then you might want to take a trip down to The Big Easy to see for yourself what this country is going to look like in a few years.

The good news is that because the problem only grows more intractable with every passing day, our dithering politicians will have fewer options to chose from when the crisis hits thereby making their jobs that much easier. The bad news is that the more time we spend in denial, the less time remains for us to get busy and do something about it. There is even the danger that if we wait too long, we will face a potentially unfixable problem on the scale of what the Soviet Union experienced – catastrophic economic failure.
