For the last 8 months, I’ve been slowly getting rid of most of my physical possessions. It started with a garage sale before moving to Santa Fe, then I left a few things in my storage building when I came back to Arkansas. Last weekend I had another garage sale and sold most of the rest of my stuff. I have a few more things left to sell, but right now, I really only plan on keeping some clothes, some computer gear, my video camera and my still camera. I’m trying to minimize my life into what I can carry. I have always overvalued my stuff and just recently learned to cut ties with the stuff. I learned that if you aren’t careful, your stuff will eventually own you. I am trying to avoid that situation.
I found this article which puts the entire concept into a well written little essay about stuff. Check it out and it will provide some insight into my new philosophy towards material possessions.
