I’ve been delaying on writing this post for awhile. Not exactly sure what I wanted to say I guess.
A few weeks ago I accepted a job offer to become the Multimedia Coordinator at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops (www.santafeworkshops.com). The job itself will consist of producing videos, producing presentations, operating and maintaining equipment, some website stuff including blogging and probably about a million other things as well. It seems like it will be an awesome job for me and my personality. I’ll get to pick the brains of some of the world’s best photographers on a daily basis and play with multimedia equipment and get paid well for it. I suspect my photography skills will improve drastically and I will make some awesome contacts in the industry.
One of my favorite aspects of the job is that during the ‘workshop season’ I will be working 70 hour weeks but during the ‘non workshop season’, I get to take tons of comp time and will be able to travel around and visit friends all over the place. That works well for me because I’m usually a bit of a workaholic and will enjoy that arrangement. Another great perk is that the staff spends 6 weeks in Mexico in the fall teaching workshops. So, in theory, my spanish speaking skills will develop into a force to be reckoned with, instead of me just barely being able to order from taco bell.
The decision was not really hard to come to, I’ve been ready to take the next step for awhile and some of my posts have alluded to this. I was just waiting for the right situation to step into and I feel pretty strongly that this is it.
So, I’m leaving behind friends, family, the Multimedia Resource Center where I worked for 7 years, the UA Athletics dept where I ran video boards for 4 seasons, a crappy apartment I lived in for 4 years, and the great NWA community where I’ve had so many great memories, to embark on a mission of personal and professional growth. I’m very appreciative of everything I’ve gained by being here and the people who have chosen to be my friends will be remembered. Of course, I don’t plan on dropping off the face of the Earth, but I do know that communication seems to get harder by distance.
My uark account will of course be closed down and my preferred email address for casual emails is my gmail account: dkdisch@… Of course, this blog will continue and my social networking profiles aren’t going anywhere, so really probably not much will change. I will still sit in my office all day and be anti-social, I will just be in a different city.
I’m still working out the logistics of moving, but the first weekend of May is my last one in Arkansas. So if you wanna hang out before I leave, you gotta make it quick. Also, I’m selling some stuff including a weight bench, a desk, possibly a queen size bed, a propane BBQ grill, and maybe a Mountain Bike.
