So, I finally made the commitment and signed a 2 year contract with a cell phone company. I thought I was going to switch to Cingular, but Sprint offered me a deal I couldn’t refuse when I told them I was leaving.
Now here is my situation with Sprint. I used to share a Cingular plan with my sister from 2000-2002. They screwed up the bill every month and we were always fighting with them to get it corrected. So as soon as our contract was up we moved to Sprint. At the time Sprint had the best phones and better customer service. So in 2004 our contract expired and we were free to rethink our situation. Well we procrastinated on making a decision and now in 2006, her boyfriend gave her a Cingular phone and account to take over which leaves me with a choice. My entire family is now Cingular and most of my friends too. I also get a CIngular discount through work. CIngular offers the GSM network which is better in several ways than CDMA, which is what Sprint is.
Meanwhile, my customer service with sprint has always been top notch. Maybe I’m lucky, but I always get treated with respect and they take care of me. (Perhaps now that I’m in a contract things will change.) When I told them about the employee discount I was to get through CIngular they offered to double the discount if I stayed. The deal was too good and the customer service is good, so I decided to stay with them. One of the main problems is that in this area, CIngular definitely has better reception. More bars in More Places. Oh well, I get good service almost everywhere I go, so it’s a minor issue.
My old plan cost me 65 bucks a month. My new plan that is exactly the same as my old one costs me 43. And I got a good discount on a new phone (and when I say good, I mean $350 off). I actually got the Palm Treo 700p.
I’ve never owned a Palm device but have used them enough to know what I am getting myself into. I have used Windows Mobile and I can tell you that it stinks. I have a long list of complaints about it. Here are a few that come to mind, but I have never actually taken the time to write them all down…
– Loses custom ring tones after restart
– Can’t view sent Text messages
– slow
– Don’t really care for the menu interface
– and always have had trouble synching it
For those reasons, I’m willing to try out a Palm device and see if it is any better. I was actually hoping to get an updated Palm device but Palm OS 6 still hasn’t been released.
Since I went through the whole process over the phone, they are shipping me the Treo and I should get in a few days. I will post my thoughts about it then. I’m super excited about my new toy and can’t wait to show my kick ass phone to all the ladies. I’ll be fighting them off with a stick.
