I had forgotten about the Myers-Briggs personality test until a friend asked my personality type. I’ve taken the test a few times (most recently in 2003) and I always come out as an INTP. I find reading the profile types to be very enlightening and if you want to know more about how I operate, click this link- www.personalitypage.com/INTP.html.

That profile is pretty much an exact fit for my personality. Much of the information I didn’t know, but once I read it, it explains why I excel at certain things and struggle with other things. Supposedly my personality type is only 1% of the population. I like that idea because being unique is something I’m proud of. It’s a characteristic I embrace and if you read that, then you will know why.

anyway, this personality test is very helpful in figuring people out and I think it should be a part of any job application. I felt misunderstood at my last job. Now I know that the reason I was unhappy there is that I thought I was hired to do the ‘architect’ stuff, the things that I’m really good at, but my employers didn’t want that. They wanted someone to implement the existing model. If I had taken the test and they had known more about the way I work, I either wouldn’t have gotten the job, or perhaps they would have tempered expectations to suit my style. I’m certainly not using my personality type as an excuse for anything, I’m just saying I think understanding people is an important part of being a manager. Oh and the last time I took the test, it was because my manager at my job wanted everyone to take it so that he could understand them better and be a better manager. He encouraged us to share our results and read more info about our coworkers personalities.

anyway, there are free versions of the test all over the internet, so take one if you wish. Here is a link to one. However, to get more accurate results this test is usually given by a professional.
