John Edwards should drop out!
I was stunned that John Edwards decided to continue campaigning for President after he found out that his wife has terminal cancer. Let me repeat that: HIS WIFE HAS TERMINAL CANCER! She is gonna die from it. {Here} is a bunch more medical info about the cancer she has.
His response: “You can go cower in the corner and hide or you can go out there and stand up for what you believe in. We have no intentions of cowering in the corner.” [Source]
So lets go with an optimistic hypothetical: John gets elected to 2 terms and leaves office in 2016 and let’s say she dies in 10 years, 2017. Luckily she didn’t die while in the White House. But meanwhile John spent the last 10 years of her life being President not spending it with her.
If it were me, and I really loved my wife, I would try to make the last years of her life the best I possibly could. That doesn’t involve being first lady. Being First Lady is a big job and comes with a great amount of stress. I don’t think it’s fair to put somebody through that. It certainly doesn’t involve me traveling all over the world cleaning up the mess Bush left and leaving her at home alone, likely with a greater degree of sickness each year.
You can argue that she wants him to still run for President. Probably she does. However, in this situation, it is the duty of a husband to take care of his wife.
You can argue whatever you want about survival rates and treatments and life expectancy, but none of those arguments will change my opinion. I might be odd, but I don’t want a President who is more concerned about being President than being by his dying wife’s side. I also don’t want a President who is more concerned with his dying wife than being President. See the dilemma?
I just don’t see how this plays out well in any way, shape, or form.

You don’t want him to be in a position where he backs out of the race and ends up resenting her or her illness. They don’t want to sit around and wait for her to die while wasting his chance at a dream. How do you know that being the first lady isn’t something that she would love to do. There will be stress but she’ll also be able to make a difference if she wants to. Seems like he loves his wife and she wants him to be running. You have no idea what a decision like that is like and have nothing to base it on. It’s up to them and I think it’s shitty that other people are judging him or their choice.
Personally I don’t care about their relationship… whatever, it’s their business. However, I’m not going to advocate somebody for president when I know they have a serious personal issue that could detract their attention from taking care of the country. It’s a bit of bad luck for his dreams of being president, but I just don’t think he can do the job as well as somebody whose wife isn’t dying.
THE EDWARDS’S HAVE BEEN VERY FORTHRIGHT ABOUT THEIR DECISIONS WHICH OBVIOUSLY WERE MADE TOGETHER. I THINK THEY ARE BOTH STRONG ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT THEY CAN DO TWO THINGS AT ONCE. EVEN DYING. I AM SURE SINCIE SHE WAS FIRST DIAGNOSED 4 YEARS AGO THEY HAVE FACED THE FACT THAT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN KNOWING ALL ALONOG THAT HE WAS GOING TO RUN AGAIN. SHE KNOWS THAT THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IS THE MOST IMPORTANT POSITION IN THE WORLD AND SHE WANTS HIM TO HAVE IT AND TOGETHER THEY WILL BE ABLE TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR THEIR COUNTRY AND THEIR FAMILY.
THEIR FAMILY WILL IN NO WAY BE NEGLECTED. THE OLDER DAUGHTER CATE WOULD BE AVAILABLE FOR THEM IN ANY WAY. THEY HAVE THE MONEY FOR THE MEDICAL NEEDS FOR MRS. EDWARDS AND FOR HELP FOR HER AND THE CHILDREN. THIS FAMILY IS CLOSE. ALREADY THEY HAVE DECIDED TO TAKE THE CHILDREN WITH THIM AND HOMESCHOOL THEM ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL. THAT SHOWS WHAT A UNITED AND STRONG FAMILY THEY ARE.
CAPABLE IS THE OTHER WORD AND THEY ARE. INDEED THEY ARE.

johns wife was on oprah the other day saying that if he didn’t continue on with his dream then he wouldn’t have been the guy she loved and married. you should watch what she said about her condition and why she wants john to continue.
