I went hiking up a mountain
So on Memorial Day, I decided to climb up the big mountian near my office because it has been calling my name since I first stepped into Santa Fe. It’s called Atalaya Mountain and the trail that I took is called the Atalaya Trail.
Here’s some info from a book about day hikes in Santa Fe:
Short, easily accessible but steep trail, shaded by a forest of pinons, junipers, and ponderosas, providing an expansive view of Santa Fe and the surrounding area. Elevation at summit: 9121ft.
I took a few pics and will upload them when I get a chance. I also made this short documentary about my hike. Enjoy!

I am impressed… I probably would have just let the mountain kick my ass! That view was awesome, though!
Erm. One should not necessarily try to tackle Atalaya after only 2 weeks at our altitude. But I guess you figured that out.
When I hike very steep trails, I make sure I keep my 140 lb dog leashed…. he can pull me up the rougher patches!
Wow! I agree that the view was suburb. Not sure I’d have made it tho.
I’m going to climb up Sandia next!!!
Climbing UP Sandia isn’t too much of an issue… if you have plenty of time. Going DOWN, however, is the proverbial b*tch!
