Election night 2006 and sports analogies
Since I am at least slightly educated and sometimes interested in politics, I watched the various news stations last night as the returns came in and the talking heads spun it up. It was nice to see the democrats do so well and at the time of this writing it appears the democrats will take control of senate as well as the house. Great News! But I’m still a little sore from the 2004 election and the absurdity of George Bush getting another 4 years in office.
But without getting too political here, I just wanted to comment on the abundance of sports analogies that get used when referring to politics. I rarely ever hear a political analogy used in sports though!
“He just dropped the ball”
“They crossed the goal line”
“it’s 4th and goal”
“the rout is on”
“like a hail mary pass”
“down for the count”
“it was a slam dunk”
“he took a shot and missed”
“the republicans are on the ropes”
There are tons more. But check out this picture:

“We’re gonna fake the screen and then throw it deep.” — Fox Commentator, desperately trying to draw up a big play that could turn things around for them.
